We recently had a customer reach out to us about building this tilt out trash can cabinet. When it comes to building furniture, we have generally stayed on the rustic/farmhouse side of things. As we have said before, we love taking on projects that are unique and can help us broaden our skill set. This project was definitely one of those types of projects.
I was a little nervous in taking this project on, as I went into it with little knowledge of how to build a cabinet of this kind. To be honest, I had to reach out to our customer multiple times to tweak the design because of mistakes in my design and previously unforeseen problems.
When all was said and done, I learned a ton during the process, and I think it turned out fantastic. It would have been easy to say no this project because it wasn’t something I had done before or even knew how to do. I think we limit ourselves all the time by convincing ourselves that we CANT do certain things, or we aren’t good enough at something, so we just say no. I hate living in that box. If I listened to the voice in my head that tells me that I CANT do it, I would never have built any furniture piece that I have made. We probably would have never started this business in the first place. This cabinet is beautiful to me, and helped me push passed my self doubt. I love it!
Our customer decided that he wanted to stain and finish it himself, and I will definitely update this post when I get pictures of it completed. Can’t wait to see how it looks!
